KARL STORZ is a leading global manufacturer of endoscopy technologies and related product lines, and was the recipient of 2015 Medal of Innovation in Surgery from the prestigious French National Academy of Surgery. Due to the rapidly changing marketplace defined by highly competitive industry dynamics and the emergence of increasingly innovative products, the company’s sales teams required accurate, real-time information about their products and prospects, anytime and anywhere. However, the evolving business and operational structures resulted in business systems with complex technology architectures involving various BI tools, such as SAP Lumira, BOBJ, and SAP BW, as well as non-SAP tools such as Qlikview, Vistex, etc. The environment made it difficult to easily access and understand the critical data required by sales teams. As a result of the complexity of various BI tools and an absence of common definitions of data as well as the story behind the data, it often took many days to prepare relevant information. By applying the design thinking innovation framework with the SAP HANA platform and SAP Fiori UX, KARL STORZ has succeeded in simplifying the sales process and empowered sales teams by providing critical tools to do their job.
